Play or pause the video in the player.
Play or pause when the seek bar is selected; it can activate a focused button in other contexts.
Seek backward 10 seconds.
Seek forward 10 seconds.
Seek backward or forward 5 seconds when the seek bar has focus.
Jump to the beginning of the video.
Jump to 10% through 90% of the video.
Jump to the beginning or final seconds when the seek bar has focus.
K is often more reliable than Spacebar because Spacebar can interact with whichever page element currently has focus.
Frame-by-Frame Controls
Move back one frame while the video is paused.
Move forward one frame while the video is paused.
Frame stepping is particularly useful when you are reviewing an edit, checking a cut, examining a fast visual, or locating a clean still frame for thumbnail design.
Creator workflow
Use the number keys to jump to the rough area of the video, pause, then use comma and period to inspect the exact frames.
Playback Speed Controls
Increase playback speed.
Decrease playback speed.
These are useful when reviewing long videos, studying pacing, or slowing down fast visual sequences. Depending on the keyboard layout, typing the greater-than or less-than symbol may require Shift.
Chapter Navigation
Go to the next chapter.

Chapter shortcuts are especially useful for reviewing structured tutorials, interviews, podcasts, and long-form videos without repeatedly opening the chapter menu.
Volume Controls
Mute or unmute the video.

Display, Captions, Search, and Player Navigation
Enter fullscreen. Press F again or Escape to exit.
Turn captions or subtitles on or off when available.

Move to the previous video when using a playlist.
The source article also listed T for theatre mode. YouTube's current official keyboard-shortcut reference does not list T, so this version sticks to the shortcuts YouTube currently documents.

Hardware media-key behaviour can also depend on your browser, operating system, and other media apps that may be active.
Useful Keyboard Habits in YouTube Studio
YouTube Studio does not mirror the player with a large dedicated shortcut set, but normal browser and text-editing shortcuts can still save time when you are managing uploads.
- Ctrl/Cmd + L to focus the browser address bar.
- Ctrl/Cmd + C and Ctrl/Cmd + V to copy and paste.
- Ctrl/Cmd + A to select text in a field.
- Ctrl/Cmd + Z to undo supported edits.
- Tab and Shift + Tab to move through focusable interface elements.
These are browser or operating-system shortcuts rather than YouTube-specific commands, so behaviour can vary by device.

When reviewing a published video or draft, jump to the approximate section with a number key, pause, then inspect the exact moment frame by frame. That can help when checking visual timing or choosing a still frame to develop into a thumbnail.
